Coaching Internship Program 2007/2008

Service Canada is providing financial assistance for this project through the Government of Canada’s Career Focus program, which offers financial support to employers and organizations to provide post-secondary graduate youth with career-related work experience in their field of study.

Through this project, the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) is offering subsidies of $12,000 to enable sport organizations to hire young professionals for coaching positions leading to permanent full-time employment.

A total of 20 internships are available. The deadline for applications is April 15, 2007 for positions starting July 1, 2007.

The Ottawa Valley Board of Approved Basketball Officials (OVBABO) is actively recruiting new basketball officials. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a basketball referee, our Fall Registration will take place on Saturday, September 8th, at 9:00 am at the McNabb Community Centre, 180 Percy St. (near the corner of Gladstone and Bronson Avenues).

The registration fee is $30 and covers all training for the season. Training will begin that morning on September 8th and continue for 1-2 evenings weekly in September and October. New officials should be available to work a minimum of 2 games weekly from October to March (especially 4pm games for High School level). A detailed training schedule will be available at the registration meeting.

Candidates must be a minimum of 17 years of age, must be in good physical condition and have a suitable personality to deal with any emotional situations that may occur while officiating a basketball game. Candidates must commit to attend all training sessions, be prepared to invest in proper referee equipment, and provide their own transportation. Experience in officiating in general and/or participation in the game of basketball as a player, coach or official is preferred.

If you or any potential recruit have any questions, please contact Bill Magnus as magnbil@rogers.com to discuss.
