Atom Boys
The Carleton Place Naismith Major Midget Girls Basketball team captured the silver medal in Division 5 at the Basketball Ontario Provincial Championships on April 29th in London, Ontario. The championships featured club teams from all of Ontario for girls aged 14 and 15.
After a 31-27 loss to Thunder Bay Wolves on Friday evening, Naismith rebounded with wins against the York South Silver Knights 55-27 and Stratford Sonnets 44-27 to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday. A last second basket provided a thrilling 35-33 victory over the Sault Ste. Marie Titans on Saturday night and set up a semifinal rematch against Thunder Bay on Sunday, which Naismith prevailed 48-34. In the gold medal game, Naismith lost to the Ancaster Magic 42-28. Jocelyn Cutler won the Basketball Ontario Hustle Award for her outstanding play.
Golden Girls!
On March 24, the Naismith Major Bantam Girls Basketball team captured the EOBA Division 3 Championship at a season ending tournament in Gloucester. This brought a remarkable season to end for the team and its fans.
The team was led by Coach Colin MacDuff, ably assisted by Dan Morton, tirelessly managed by Lisa Schumacher, supported by adoring family and friends, and encouraged by the Naismith Minor Basketball Association (NMBA) vision. For this complete article click here
